I'm choosing to recognize the precious nature of each day.
I am a ceramic artist whose work explores the patterns and relationships that connect us—to nature, to one another, and to the larger universe. I am endlessly fascinated by the common threads that link all of humanity: innate symbols, the way we perceive the world, the influence of the past on the present and the future, the relationship between the subatomic and the cosmic, and the way countless small parts come together to create a greater whole. Ideas such as interconnectedness, time, perception, automatism, and being in a state of flow continually shape both my thinking and my studio practice.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, emphasizing sculpture. My studio is in Alma, Wisconsin, a small river town nestled along the Mississippi River. Surrounded by bluffs, woods, and water, I find endless inspiration in the landscape and in the quiet rhythm of the natural world. It is a place where I can slow down, observe, and continue exploring the questions that have guided my work for years.
